I dont need the "Shame on you, Cancer, Your too young, Killing yourself slowly etc etc" Stuff because I know that and I've made my choice.

But how do I hide the fact that Im smoking from my Parents?
I know theres no point in hiding it forever but I just have to hide it for a year, till I'm 18 and can give them the "Im old enough to decide for myself" speech.

And yes, Both my parents are quite heavy smokers.

If you are that confident in the choice you have made, then you shouldn't feel the need to hide it from them, right?

I read on a website that smoking cigarettes in amsterdam was banned? I find it hard to believe though.

The ban on smoking tobacco in public places has been in place for many years already - it was merely that the catering establishments were able to delay the implementation until Jul/2008.

So as of 01 Jul, then the smoking ban has come into place and this follows the rest of industry and indeed the general trend in Western Europe - so it’s not really so surprising to be honest

As mentioned - smoking of marijuana in coffeeshops is still possible but not combined with tobacco, unless there is a partioned area away from workers.

for an essay for my language arts class we’re writing about our opinions and facts about marijuana and how it affects teens lives as well as their health. alot of people i know smoke it, and they say if it grows in the ground it’s fine. is that true?. and if not, what makes it so dangerous?

I am not anti-marijuana but the “If it grows in the ground” argument has to be the stupidest thing I have heard as the first person pointed out many poisonous things grow in the ground.
If you want to do a opinion about why it is good for your health check out sites like

so you can use some scientific arguments so it doesn’t sound like you smoked something before stating your opinions

I’m using a NuvaRing. I know that smoking cigarettes while on birth control would lead to bad heart problems, but does weed do the same?

…If you’re going to preach, go waste your time elsewhere.

I don’t see a need to preach unless you get pregnant.

A little bit of googling doesn’t show anything. Best to ask a doctor. I always phrase my doctor questions such as “What would happen if I were to do X while I’m on Y?” It deflects any potential judgment and just gets to the heart of the issue.

I have had this migraine headache every day for 3 months. I have always been against smoking " weed ". But I honestly can't take it anymore. Today was my birthday and more then ever my head hurt tremindously and I was dizzy all day. I want to know how to stop coughing when you start to smoking. I know after 30 min it goes away. But I can't stand the feeling. ( I've only done it twice in 18 years. ) I cough so much to where my lungs hurt VERY bad and I feel sick. But after i'm high it's okay. I hear weed stops headaches so i'm just going to do it. So simple question.

How do I stop coughing when I start smoking?

Take smaller tokes….

I have been smoking since I was 10 years old. That was 10 years ago. What are some of the cheap & easiest ways to stop smoking and get into better health?
I also live with smokers and ride with 2 smokers to work. I am always around it.

It is very difficult to quit but you can…You should get a MRI of your lungs. You should also google a question pictures of lungs due to long term smoking..Some people do it cold turkey. Others do the patch, or nicotine gum. have heard also there is a pill out there that helps..You can't undo any damage you have, but you can prevent further damage. Have you ever seen someone who has died because of smoking? I have it was my mother. Good luck!!!!

My sister went with the pill, "chantix". She swears by it, while I swear that I will smoke even when I am dead!

My boyfriend smokes, and uses those chew pouches to control his cravings when he can’t smoke. I’m going to buy him the patch, but I want to show him solid facts to kind of put fear in him and make him aware of how it is affecting him everywhere, not just his lungs.

Links would be awesome! Thank you guys for your help.

I'm a dental student, and we counsel every patient that walks in about tobacco (whether or not they smoke). There is so, so much out there that shows research about how awful it is, and I'll try to find some. However, I think the best and more effective way is by finding some risky-looking things in the mouth. Almost 100% of smokers and chewers will develop some sort of oral lesion. A lot of them are benign, but some will become cancerous. I know that "scare tactics" aren't a fair way to educate someone, but there's something to be said for getting a point home when you can see evidence in your own body.

Here's what to do: take a flashlight and shine it into his mouth (or have him look himself.) Have him stick his tongue out and look under it, and on either side (way in the back). Look at the skin on the inside of his cheeks, the roof of his mouth, and on the inner side of upper and lower lips. Look for any white spots, ulcers, or red spots. Here's an idea of what to look for:

With people who chew, almost everyone will develop a corrugated white lesion called hyperkeratosis. Here's an idea:

If you see ANYTHING abnormal, make sure he gets to his dentist to get it looked at.

Tell him that he is 5 times more likely to get periodontitis (severe gum disease), which has irreversible bone loss and can cause his teeth to get loose. Also, the massive amounts of bacteria associated with gum disease has been linked to heart disease and stroke as well.

If he ever has surgery, it will be difficult for him to heal. In fact, dentists will NOT place implants and most hospitals will reject regular surgery if the patient smokes. That means if he needs something done, he will simply be sent him. Period. They don't mess around with it since smokers have such poor healing rates and sometimes even get worse after surgery because tobacco constricts blood vessels.

And his cancer risk is MUCH higher, of course.

My sister and I have been smoking a long time. We have both tried many things to stop. My dad just died from a lung disease and never smoked in his life. So we are finally trying hypnosis in a few weeks. Has anyone done this and had it be successful? We are not doing the hotel seminars, we are going to a certified hypnotist, one on one.. looking for all opinions out there.

It worked for me and I smoked a pack a day for 15 years. I only went one time and quit without any withdrawls. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids for the first 3 days after your session to help flush the nicotine out of your system. Go in with any open mind because if you don't believe it will work, it won't. Good luck!!!!

husband is trying to stop smoking and he's going on 48 hrs, is panicky but is still motivated and wants to kick that habit.

for anybody who has quit smoking, how many days until your nerves started to cool down?

I don't smoke, but most addiction studies say that three days is the first major hump, followed by a week, then the third week. After that, unless you start up again, you're usually fine. The panic may last more or less time than that. It's purely individual, and the numbers I cited are averages.
