I am really gonna try and quit smoking, been doing it for 33 years, does anyone know if thes Nicoderm CQ patches work, and are there any side effects, especially hyperness, I can't handle being hyper.
Thanks

Mild itching, redness, burning, and stinging at the application site may occur. Stop using this product and tell your doctor if redness caused by the patch does not go away after 4 days. Nausea, dizziness, flushing, or headache may also occur. Common nicotine withdrawal symptoms can occur when you stop smoking and include dizziness, anxiety, depression, or trouble sleeping, among others. If any of these withdrawal symptoms or side effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If your doctor has prescribed this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Serious side effects are more likely if you continue to smoke while using this product. Do not smoke while you are using this medication.

Stop using this medication and tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

* mental/mood changes (e.g., irritability, trouble sleeping, vivid dreams)
* numbness/tingling in hands/feet
* swelling hands/ankles/feet

Stop using this medication and seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:

* chest pain
* confusion
* severe headache
* fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat
* slurred speech
* weakness on one side of the body

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

* rash
* itching
* swelling
* severe dizziness
* trouble breathing

Just remember if a doctor did subscribe it he knows what hes doing,

Also dont try this if you havent seen someone, make sure you check that you can use it with a doctor (not everyone can use everything)

all the best

My question is. I am 24 I smoked for several years. I quit about a month ago. I do have an occasionly snuff, something I have always done. My question is that my lungs feel like they have mucus in them and my throat too. Its been about 3 weeks since my last smoke. Is there anything I can do to get the mucus out of my throat - lungs. And will I still get side effects from quitting smoking even though I use chewing tobacco sometimes? Thanks

Some of that could be the side effects from smoking. I have a friend who is a Tobacco Treatment Specialist his website is http://www.tjsays.com he also has an email address there if I remember correctly it is tj@tjsays.com as well as a forum page http://www.forum.BESOCHEMPS.com I'm sure he may be able to help you with your question

How long do the "side effects" of smoking last? You know, stained teeth, stained hands, bad breath, all that stuff — how long does it take, after you quit smoking, for those side effects to go away? Thank you very much.
It might be a good time to add:

I DON'T SMOKE AND AREN'T PLANNING TO START!

Why do so many people assume that, if you ask a question, it must be directly relating to you and/or you must be in that situation? Sheesh. *shakes head*

Stained teeth - not all smokers have them, but if you do you probably need to take care of them after you quit smoking, like use whitening toothpaste or go to the dentist.

Stained hands - depends on how stained they are, usually happens after a long night of studying when one was really nervous and smoked almost all the time… 1 to 2 days for the stains to disappear.

Bad breath - 1 to 2 days, if you didn't smoke today you won't wake up with the same bad breath you usually have in the morning tomorrow.

But these are not among the worst side effects of smoking. There are so many other ones. When I quit smoking, for example, it took me around a month to start sensing smells around me again and to realize how much perfume I used; my appetite increased really bad so I had to spend 2 hours in the gym every day running as crazy so I didn't gain too much weight; my stomach always felt swollen; I couldn't concentrate when I was studying; I didn't know what to do with my hands when I was sitting in a restaurant or anywhere else and looking at other people smoking in front of me made me really nervous, etc.

No matter what, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health! So do it and don't think too much of the side effects.

I had a friend of mine who used Chantex to quit smoking. She didn't experience anything until about the 7th day that she was taking the pills and at which point she felt nauseated when smoking. On the 8th day, she actually vomitted when she lit up her cigarette. I guess it is the brain associating smoking with vomitting is the reason this drug works. Don't have much personal basis to go off of, but good luck to you.

Quit smoking almost 2 years ago, in february would be 2 years exact. Still want a ciggarete every day of every hour. Fight is hard but cravings substantialy decreased.

I think it depends upon how much you smoked and for how long. Like someone smoking half a pack a day for 10 years would probably have a better chance of never having any related diseases than someone smoking 2 packs for 60 years. You can always ask your doctor to have a look at your lungs if you’re concerned that you may have done long term damage.

i have virtually quit smoking down to 4 or 5 a week. i just find it so hard to finally quit altogether especially when i go out with Friends for a drink. my craving hits give in point and i have one after a beer on the weekends is this ok or is it just as bad as smoking on a daily basis?

20 minutes! Go to the “stop smoking recovery timetable”, your body starts healing in as little as 20 minutes. You need to quit entirely, sounds like you have just about got it licked so keep at it. Good luck!

like do you have withdrawn symptoms of any kind

Not everyone gets withdrawals, but, for most smokers their unconscious mind has a belief that they NEED to smoke to get along in life and if it doesn’t get a smoke it creates what we call ‘withdrawals’, like a child’s tantrum, to make your conscious mind give in……..

These withdrawals can be anything the unconscious can do to your body to make your resolve crack and bad moods are the underlying tantrum being felt consciously.

If you are one of those who gets withdrawals, you have to deal with the unconscious mind through hypnotherapy, meditation or gutsy willpower……..See my website …..

Not everyone experiences the same thing. For some people it is quite manageable to simply quit cold turkey. Other things like ‘quit programs’ essentially assist the persons will power.

Nicotine is only one of 4,000 or more chemicals and poisons in cigarettes and not the reason why 99% of people smoke. You could be addicted to any one of these chemicals. I have had client smoking to get the petrochemicals and others fruit juice !!! It isn’t a nicotine addiction, don’t waste your money on patches, gums or lozenges. It is a fallacy promoted to make $ out of smoker suckers.

Neither is smoking simply a habit. Habits can be changed with a bit of thought.

All very terrible side effects of giving up a drug.
