i smoke 2 packs a day and cant seem to find any way to stop , im a 26 year old mother of two and a college student and i have plenty of good reasons to quit but it doesnt seem like i have any will power

If willpower is your issue, then you have to go to a place where you will not be tempted, and you can therefore concentrate on breaking your habit and experience living nicotine-free. Rehab is a very good place to do this. If I were you, I'd do some research online. The web has a vast array of resources that will connect you to a support group, clinic, and/or rehab center near where you live. Just remember, you're stronger than nicotine; you can do this.

I've been addicted to nicotine for about 4 years now. I smoke 2-3 cigarettes a day and I also dip. I'd like to quit but previous attempts have shown me that complete willpower is absolutely necessary. A friend suggested that we see a hypnotist to quit. I'm skeptical… has anyone had experience with one? If so, did it work?

It works if you're determined.

How is smoking harmful to the lungs? Does the hot air from the smoke actually sear/burn the lining of the lungs? At what temperature does this take place? If someone is using a Vaporizer to Vaporize the tobacco and say they set it at 360 Degrees Farenheight, would this be hot enough to sear the aveoli? Does it burn the lining of the lungs?
I should of asked "How healthy is it to use a Vaporizer". Vaporizers smoking isn't actually smoking at all since the tobacco never burns or combusts. Super heated air blown past the tobacco is hot enough to vaporize the product so all you get is the drug and not the carbon monoxide or tar.

Because nicotine is so addictive, it is very hard to stop smoking. But you can. The single most important factor for people who successfully quit smoking was the belief and confidence that they could do it. There is no magical quick fix. Do it when you really decide you want to do it.
AYURVEDIC APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM -
Ayurveda does not rely on one or two techniques. It combines as many as possible and addresses the life of the entire person — body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda views the roots of addictions as mental inertia, which is caused by excess mental activity. An addiction grows because we attempt to calm these excesses through artificial, external means (drugs, food, tobacco etc.) rather than through natural or holistic measures. If one is anxious, angry, worried, impatient, lethargic or uncaring, Ayurveda sees this as an excess of one of the three basic Dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT
To deal with nicotine, tar and other toxic compounds in the channels, consider these recommendations:

Drink plenty of water, better yet if it is kept in a container made of copper, which scrapes away ama (toxic deposits).
Perform neti kriya morning and night (with the help of a neti pot, allow room-temperature normal saline solution to enter one nostril and flow out the other; then, reverse.).
Practice bhastrika pranayama, morning and night, to expel contaminants in the upper airways (any good hatha yoga manual will have simple instructions).
For nicotine, tar and other toxic compounds already deposited in the dhatus: take three tablets or one tablespoon of triphala every night, before bedtime.
Toning herbs include Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Bala, and Ginseng. Take a constitutionally appropriate rasayana every morning, which will help detoxification. Rasayana 'Chyavanaprash' is suitable for person of any constitution.

DIET -
Do your very best to stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week or longer, as these tend to stimulate the desire for a cigarette. Avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine, and you may gain weight even if you eat the same amount as before quitting. So discipline about diet is extra important now. No one ever said acquiring new habits would be easy!

Take vegetarian low fat diet to increase the Sattvic quality of mind. All fresh foods contains, prana and they increase ojas.

Nibble on low calorie foods like celery, apples and carrots. Chew gum or suck on cinnamon sticks.

EXERCISE -
Exercise is an obvious way to help avoid gaining weight after you quit. Studies show that smokers have an easier time quitting when they add exercise to their smoking cessation plan. There are some other benefits of exercise including: stress reduction

HELP FROM YOGA -
Yoga is a form of relaxation and exercise that incorporates stretching, meditation and the knowledge of the body's full potential. It helps relieve tension and stress, and helps increase your strength and vitality.

corpse pose (Shavasana) -
The corpse pose, or Shavasana in Sanskrit, is the classic relaxation Yoga Pose, and is most restful pose in yoga. It's the final pose used in most yoga classes, but can also be done on its own to facilitate meditation or relaxation. It looks deceptively simple, but it is in fact, one the most difficult Yoga Asanas and one which changes and develops through practice.

Yes it does:

Even the smoke residue on Obama's clothes affect his children by inducing asthma.

Couldn't Obama give up cigarettes for his children's health?

I could care less about his children.

We all have the right to raise OUR children as we see fit.

osaka bama is parenting at his best(cough).

It's the American Way of Life!

This is my 3rd day smoke-free.

the american lung association says that after two years of being smoke free, your lungs are in pristine shape, ie you never smoked, unless of course some disease process has already begun, once begun, a disease process in the lungs may not heal.

I’ve read everywhere that nicotine is (definitely) addictive. My question is, is it just “mental”? The reason I ask is, I am an ex-smoker who has smoked for 8 years however, I was never “addicted”. I never had cravings, and not smoking for days or weeks never had any effects on me. And when I stopped, I quit cold turkey and never had any issues. I have always been curious because I hear my friends talk about how they have cravings etc and I always thought they were exaggerating, but obviously they weren’t, and I’m the odd one out for not having these cravings and addiction. So is there some psychological (or whatever) reasoning as to why I was never addicted? I understand, a lot of material addiction, such as addiction to pornography, or video games etc is just mental and you just need to get over it mentally to not be addicted. However, is that the same for substance/chemical addiction? Or does the body always form a physical dependence on the substance in the case of chemical addiction? If it does, why was my body never affected in the same way?

WTF!!!!!!

My god you should tell a doctor and find out, I mean you might be on to something good. :)

(Maybe the world will finally have a stop of the crave of nicotine woth what you have?)

I'm doing a presentation on smoking and I'm gonna put molasses in a jar to represent tar from human lungs after smoking. Please provide sources if possible.

1 year's worth of tar in the lungs
Here's the amount of tar a pack-a-day smoker consumes every year. Some tar gets exhaled (one reason for bad breath). Some gets coughed up (gross). The rest stays in your lungs (oh-oh).

If this is how much a pack-a-day smoker takes in each year, imagine how much tar you would take into your body if you smoked until you were 30 years old…multiple what you see in the picture by say, 15, for 15 years. That means 15 beakers full of tar!

Tar can: Rot your lungs.
Kill your cells.
Cause cancerous tumours.

Imagine pouring hot tar used to repair roads on your hand and leaving it there. What do you think would happen to your skin?

….good luck.

For a project I am researching ways to stop nicotine addiction. So far I learned about damaged to the insula. Does anyone know other ways to stop addiction? Specially having to do with the brain.

hypnosis- taping into the subconcious of your brain.
Chantix ( drug that replaces the urge in the brain's receptors) this is what my daughter did and quit successfully.
Patch (curbs your nicotine cravings)
gum supposedly curbs your cravings too.
Fear will make you stop. Especially when something traumatic happens to your body. My SIL had her carotid arteries cleaned out of her neck and it was enough to make her quit just like that.

For me I quit cold turkey. I kept busy and altered my routine. When ever I wanted one, I would talk myself out of it. I would also pray to get through it. I suppose not what you really want to hear, but it was still a brain process with thought waves. My motivation was to purchase something that I wanted badly enough and couldn't afford to have both things in my life.
