Has anyone used ear acupuncture to stop smoking? Did you succeed?

I have an appointment to get ear acupuncture next week. I truly want to quit smoking again (4th attempt in 10 years). I am lookin for success stories. Also, people who haven't succeeded and what happened to make you go back?

Yes it works! I was getting it 3 or 4 times a week at first. In Nova Scotia it's a free service provided by our government. I peetered down to once a week and then stopped going. I had been smoke free for 6 months. When I stopped going to acupuncture and some stresses at home occured the smoking started again. I am just resuming the treatments… hopefully it will work. My doctor suggested Welbutrin as the best option but it's an anti-depressant and I really don't want to start taking drugs that might alter how I will feel.

Well I went a few years ago, and it seems to have caused a nightmare catalogue of ear infections for me.
It involved a tiny needle being put in the back of both ears, and covered with a little plaster. These had to stay in for 10 days, and were supposed to stop the cravings straight away. They didn't work for me, I held off as long as I could, but had a fag the next day.
That day I also noticed that my ears were incredibly itchy, not around the needle site, just inside, and there was a bit weeping stuff too.
I went to the Docs, who said I had Otitis Externa (basically an outer ear infection), he gave me some drops for it. 2 weeks after the acupuncture was done I went to have it done again cos it hadn't worked. The ear infection had pretty much gone, and the bloke doing the acupuncture checked my ears in case and said they were fine.
The next day I started smoking again, and my ears were worse than ever. Literally pouring with fluid. I had to have cotton wool in them, and it had to be changed every hour cos they were pouring that much.
My Doc doesn't believe that there's any connection between the infections and the acupuncture. I never had the acupuncture done again, and I have been plagued by these infections ever since. It's now 3 years later, and they'll go for a short time, but always come back.

I don't mean to put you off completely though, I've been told by 2 doctors that I have "funny" ears (dunno what they meant-they've never explained!) and that could be why I'm suffering. I went to acupuncture cos I'd heard from so many people who'd quit because of it, including a woman who smoked 40 a day for 30 years- she quit cold turkey as soon as she'd had it done, with no withdrawal symptoms at all. If you've heard good things about it, and you really want to quit, then by all means get it done.
