Has anyone doctor told them not to quit smoking while pregnant?

My friend is so small (size 0 and very slim hips) and babies in her and her hubbys familys are always huge her doctor told her not to quit smoking so that the baby wouldnt get too big to come out.shes now had three and he told her the same thing with all three (all three were 8 1/2 lb babys even with her smoking)
is this normal?
my friend was a 12lb baby and her sister was a 11 1/2lb baby and her husband and all his siblings were up around 10lbs

her sister did quit smoking with her two and they were both 11+lb babys and she had to have c-sections with them both to get them out. (and shes built bigger than my friend is)

Ok yes I have to say that My own doctor advised me not to quit cold turkey and if I did I should expect a very large baby he did however ask me to cut down….. I had a 9lb 13 oz baby my second and I was expecting my 3rd, The doctor had seen that I had a very hard time delivering my 2nd and told me that smoking causes lower birth weight…. Now I cut down ALOT but continued smoking right up to the day I gave birth, My 3rd is very Happy, Healthy, No medical probs whatsoever and he was born at 7 lbs 8oz still a very round kiddo! This is of course contreversial, but for me it's a personal choice.

Most doctors will tell you to quit smoking whether you're pregnant or not

No that's not normal i would tell her to have a second opinion. If another doctor tells her the same thing that's different.

I highly doubt the doctor told her not to quit smoking so she would have a "low birth weight" baby. He probably told her that pregnancy was not a great time to quit smoking because the baby would be going through withdrawls as well as the mother. I know, I quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant for my daughter. But no doctor in their right mind would instruct someone to do something unhealthy like smoking just so they could have a low birth weight baby, at least not a decent, reputable doctor licensed in the U.S.

That doctor should have his license pulled! if he actually said that at all! Smoking has been proven to cause learning problems such as ADHD and ADD, and that baby would have a higher chance of developing asthma! My mom smoked with all 4 of us kids and we all have ADD and one of my sisters has severe asthma. She is now 42 and just had to go to the ER the other night because of an attack. She is putting her kids at risk for future problems!

my doctor told me just to cut back on the smoking… said that if I quit totally the withdrawal may hurt the baby

yes i know a few people that has happened to. as they have really big baby's and for the fact that your baby is "hooked" so if you try to quit after your 1 month along it puts extra stress on the baby and the mother and that is not good while your pregnant as stress can kill the baby and possibly the mother.

and people that haven't been through it shouldn't talk!

I think the doctor needs to lose his license. Smoking is very bad for a fetus…Tell her that she needs a new doctor!

That doctor's a quack & shouldn't be practising medicine! Birth weight depends on genetics. I knew I'd be having a 9 lb son since his older 2 1/2 brothers were 9 lbs. If not for that, I'm sure I would've had a smaller baby as I was a 7 lber & my brother was too.
