You can't make him stop !
Stopping comes from inside—no matter how hard you try,how much incentive/reward you give, if he is not ready to give it up he won't.
Any temporary cessation is rescinded when the craving overwhelms him—-his motivation has to exceed that craving manyfold times to succeed and that only can come from the smoker. So save your breath ! you can't save his ! He has to do it himself.

Nothing is impossible in this world. try to make him understand about the important of living with the loved ones. Ask the person to always think about the happiest moments he had and tell him that life is so long and more moment are yet to come. Never give it up from educating him about the causes of smoking cigarettes and its affects to the others.
