does anyone have any good tips on quitting smoking?

i`ve been a smoker for many years i have stopped several times.
the problem is the withdrawal symptoms. after stopping i suffer from the shakes, stress .anxiety and hot and cold flushes
i can cope with the cravings its the rest of stuff i cant deal with. i have tried patches, gum, inhaler, but they dont work for me.
i`m desperate to give up for good.i hate smoking but cant handle the withdrawal.
do you have any good tips that might work for me?
thanks.

I'm not a smoker, but I have a few family members that are in the same boat as you are. I don't have any good tips but I wanted to tell you about one of my habits and how I got it under control. I was a chronic T.V. addict. I would watch it everyday all day and late into the night. It got to where I hated it and at times I wanted to throw it out of the house. I had direct T. V. and decided that I would shut it off and I would have nothing to watch. Wrong. I then because nothing was on the antenna T.V. I would tape the late shows all night so that I could have something to watch in the day. I finally took the T.V. out of my home and I have never been happier. I finally got my life back. Before if my husband wanted to go somewhere I would not want to I would sit there in front of my demon, but now We are very active and go places together often. He misses the T.V., but he has made a sacrifice that has benefited him. I lost 50 Pounds already and for that he is extremely happy. I'm happier. What I'm trying to say is that until you find a way inside you to quit you won't be happy. Just think of the joy you will have just to look and see someone smoking and know that you over came that. No matter what it takes. My brother and his wife smoke, they both want to quit, but never come to the conclusion at the same time. So it kind of sabotages the others progress. Stay away from other smokers. Only buy one pack for the day or week. Don't have any extra on hand. Clean out your house of all ash trays even your car. Have nothing to do with smoking around you. Make small rules for yourself that you plan on keeping. Like no smoking in the house, no smoking until 2 hours after a meal. I've noticed that most people want to smoke right after or during a meal. This is just a few choices that I thought of. I bet you can think of many. If you turely want to quit you will try anything. Like me, it took drastic measures. Soon you'll be on your way to a smoke free inviroment. Good Luck.

Try Chantix. It helped my father quit. I believe you can just go to your family doctor to get a prescription! Hope this helps!

A buddy of mine told me that when you get a craving tell your self well i will get one later… then go on about your business. When you see a store say to your self well i will get one later, then you will realize you never got one. Never keep cigs. with you, if you do need one so bad just smoke one then throw the box away, that way you will have to stop and buy some each time you need a smoke. Pretty soon it will seem more of a hassel to smoke then joyful. Good luck!

You didn't mention Zyban tablets They sure helped me. Also, I was fortunate to have a doctor who took the trouble to phone me two or three times a week to see how I was doing. Having him for a mentor was a good thing. I was afraid to disappoint him! Can you find a mentor?

When you get the urge tell yourself "I'm only one puff away from a pack a day" A motto helps to.

I went from three packs a day to zero but not in time to avoid serious lung damage. Good luck to you.

My wife used Chantix to quit. She didn't really want to quit but her friend had used it and had quit so she went to our doctor who said that everybody was having tremendous success and wrote her a prescription on the spot. The prescription was for a 6 month supply but our insurance would only pay for the starter pack and one month. Let me tell you, my wife would forget to smoke and when she did lite up a cigarette, she would only take a couple of puffs and put it out. She didn't even make it through the starter pack and it has been almost two years since she quit. As I said, she would forget to smoke so she didn't have any withdrawal issues.
